Course Requirements
Attendance in class (one absence without penalty)

One-page analytical papers and assignments
Two three-page essays

Attendance and participation in class (including quizzes, discussion, oral reports) 10%
Four one-page analyses and other assignments 40%
Two three-page essays 30%
Mid-term Exam (Friday, March 13, in class) 10%
Final Exam (Friday, May 15, 9 a.m.) 10%
Your paper must either be turned in at the beginning of class on the day on which it is due in order for you to receive full credit, or, if you choose to submit your paper electronically, your paper must be in my inbox by 11 A.M. on the day on which it is due in order for you to receive full credit. If you miss the deadline for any paper, you may still submit it late. There will be, however, a deduction of 1/3 of a grade per class period for any late paper (i.e. A to A-, B- to C+).
Instructions for Downloading Image Galleries
In order to view on your computer the image galleries that you see in class and in order to view images that you analyze for assignments, you will need to follow these steps:
1. Register on ARTstor, a database of digital images that provides the software for the slide shows. Select "Register" on the right hand side of the webpage.
2. Fill out the ARTstor User Registration and register. You will need to use your Grinnell.edu email address and you will need to remember your password!
3. Now install ARTstor’s Off-Line Image Viewer (OIV) on your computer. Click on "Tools" in the menu bar of ARTstor, in the upper center of the screen.
4. Scroll down and click on "Download offline presentation tool (OIV)."
5. Follow instructions. Move the OIV icon to your desktop and now you are operational.
Now you should be able to go to the course area for Roman Archaeology and Art (the combined “Art/Cls Roman Archaeology and Art” tab) on PioneerWeb, and click on “Documents.” Under “Documents” then click on “Image Galleries.” Open “1. Introduction to Course” and view the images. Practice manipulating them.
When you have done all this, email me and confirm that you are operational on ARTstor. You must complete these steps before class on Friday, January 23. Please report any difficulties to me immediately.
